Tech Buying Budgets for SMBs on the Rise
SMBs across the APAC are not just increasing their technology investments—they are making strategic, forward-thinking moves to position themselves for long-term growth.
With a population of only 370,000, the people of Iceland believe that just two degrees of separation connects everyone in the country. But for leading Icelandic Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Wise and Crayon, their relationship is much closer – even symbiotic.
This association between Wise and Crayon has an interesting backstory, starting when Crayon launched its Iceland branch in 2014 and worked out of offices rented from Wise. These companies are now partners, both for Microsoft Dynamics and as ISVs.
“Our association with Crayon has deep roots,” says Stefán Torfi Höskuldsson, Chief Technical Officer at Wise, Iceland’s leading Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central provider. “These are people with whom we brainstorm during the day and afterward, enjoy a beer together,” says Höskuldsson, and elaborates:
We regularly bring Crayon in on the consulting side, particularly for Cloud economics, DevOps consultancy, and Microsoft audit procedures.
Stefán Torfi Höskuldsson joined as Country Manager for Chile in 2004 after Wise bought his company specializing in aquaculture software systems. Returning to Reykjavik with an appreciation of good-quality beef and red wine, Höskuldsson’s developmental skills in Delphi, .NET, and SQL Server, combined with his management experience, enhanced the technical leadership at the growing ISV.
It was the introduction of Microsoft Azure and the licensing considerations of that platform that resulted in Wise partnering with Crayon.
When we first started working with Azure in 2012, there was something of a Wild West approach to licensing, with vendors taking different approaches.
The CTO continues: “Crayon assisted in rectifying the situation and helped us develop a workable Azure partner roadmap. They enabled us to offer cost-effective subscription models in Azure, delivering cloud economics while balancing costs. This collaboration enables us to focus on Azure DevOps and creating automated procedures. Crayon’s Cloud-iQ provides a key component for reselling licenses and controlling platform licensing effectively.”
“This relationship certainly works both ways,” says Sigurdur Fridrik Pétursson, Channel Lead at Crayon Iceland. “Wise is the sort of partner that Crayon loves to have. Both as an ISV and a Dynamics partner, we have connections into the Microsoft ecosystem that benefits Wise,” says Pétursson, and continues: “Any problems, we just pick up the phone for a chat, and everything’s solved. We genuinely want the best for each other – it’s a win-win relationship.”
Both Wise and Crayon expect further benefits from this partnership in the future. “Wise sees huge opportunities with the continued development of Market-iQ, Crayon’s market penetration tool, in supporting the international growth of WiseFish, our leading fish management platform. We’re thinking big, with expansion into other areas of Dynamics 365, Power BI, and Microsoft 365. There aren’t many partners like Crayon – a one-stop shop that’s better together,” finalizes Höskuldsson.
