OPC, a Crayon partner was engaged by Ronald McDonald House Charities ACT & South East NSW (RMHC). RMHC is an independent, not-for-profit organisation supporting families with seriously ill children. Their dedicated team, led by Executive Officer Lee Maiden, along with generous donors, sponsors, and volunteers, strive to keep families together during the challenging journey of childhood illness.
Like many non-profit organisations, RMHC wrestled to stretch budget and resources to cover its core service delivery to families and manage its technology operations.
A large and complex compliance burden, limited staff, and reliance on volunteers created specific challenges with prioritising funding for IT and cybersecurity. This affected RMHC’s ability to implement and the Essential Eight cybersecurity framework and controls mandated by the Australian government.
This raised concerns, because the nature of the work conducted by RMHC necessitates cybersecurity vigilance to protect sensitive personal and financial information.
The urgency of the mission to improve the cybersecurity posture at RHMC was not in doubt. How to cover the costs without compromising their standard of care to families remained the hurdle.
That’s when OPC stepped up, ready to fill some big old red happy shoes.
