Copilot Agents: Level up from chatbots
Copilot Agents: what are they and how do they differ from AI assistants and chatbots? Our in-house Copilot expert Ksenia Turner explains the use cases and service opportunities for partners.
Ignite 2025 made it clear that partners are at the centre of Microsoft’s vision for the “Frontier Firm”; the next wave of organisations that will blend human expertise with AI and agents at every level.
This year’s announcements bring a wave of changes across partner programmes, designations, and product innovation, all aimed at helping partners lead customers through the next phase of digital transformation.
This recap highlights the updates most relevant to indirect resellers, with practical context and links to help you go deeper where it matters.
The ‘Frontier Firm’ concept is all about partners setting the pace for innovation by embedding AI and agentic solutions into their own operations and using those first-hand experiences to guide customers through transformation.
By becoming ‘Customer Zero’, partners take on the role of first adopter, demonstrating real-world impact and showing what’s possible when you lead from the front.
This approach means:
Examples of the Customer Zero mindset in action include:
I really encourage partners to document these internal journeys.
Whether it’s a shift from manual workflows to AI-powered automation, or the launch of new service lines enabled by agentic solutions, ‘showing your work’ provides credible proof points when advising customers.
Sharing adoption metrics and lessons learned helps build trust with clients considering similar transformations and positions your practice as a leader in operational excellence.
As we highlighted in our Microsoft Channel Strategy Guide, priority will be given to partners that can demonstrate both technical capability and measurable business outcomes in new value generation zones like Data and AI.
The ‘Customer Zero’ mindset is about showing the value of AI and agentic solutions within your own organisation, and using those insights to help customers navigate their own frontier.
Whether it’s reducing manual effort, unlocking new insights, or launching innovative solutions, leading by example sets you apart as a trusted advisor in the age of AI.
Copilot continues to evolve, bringing new capabilities and opportunities for partners to drive transformation and deliver value across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

Introducing Microsoft Agent Factory
Azure continues to evolve as the backbone for AI-powered transformation, delivering new capabilities that empower partners to build, deploy, and scale intelligent solutions for customers of all sizes.
Agent Factory is a major innovation, providing a unified platform for partners to build, deploy, and manage AI agents at scale.
With Agent Factory, partners can:
Integration with Azure AI Foundry and Microsoft Fabric ensures agents are grounded in enterprise data, benefit from unified security and compliance, and can be extended with custom workflows or third-party connectors.
Azure’s advancements in compute, networking, and storage deliver the performance and reliability required for demanding AI applications.
For partners, these innovations mean greater ability to deliver high-performance, secure, and cost-effective AI solutions, whether for SMBs or large enterprises, all whilst maintaining control and visibility throughout the deployment process.
Azure’s unified platform and lifecycle management tools position partners to accelerate AI adoption, operationalise intelligent agents, and deliver measurable business outcomes for customers.

Security remains a top priority, with Microsoft announcing a range of new capabilities within its security suite.
Security Copilot is now embedded across Microsoft Defender, Entra, Intune, and Purview, delivering unified AI-powered protection.
This integration enables:
Extending Zero Trust principles beyond human identities, Entra Agent ID introduces identity and access management for AI agents and automated processes.
It provides:
Sentinel Graph (GA) gives security teams the ability to model, analyse, and visualise complex relationships across digital estates. It is ideal for uncovering hidden attack paths and dependencies.
Microsoft Sentinel uses AI-driven signals to predict cross-cloud disruption, anticipate attacks and trigger automated containment before impact, reducing dwell time and improving resilience.
For partners, these innovations unlock new ways to expand managed security services, deliver advanced threat protection, and modernise SecOps for customers of all sizes.
By combining Security Copilot’s automation with Entra’s identity controls and Sentinel’s predictive analytics, partners can help organisations build a security posture that is adaptive, AI-driven, and ready for the evolving threat landscape.

Microsoft’s AI Cloud Partner Program (MAICPP) has been refreshed to better recognise and support partners driving transformation for customers and within their own businesses.
The programme’s evolution is designed to help partners differentiate, access new incentives, and align more closely with Microsoft’s strategic solution areas.
The updates to designations and specialisations are not just badges.
They’re signals to customers and Microsoft that a partner is investing in advanced capabilities and delivering measurable outcomes.
The value of partners holding these designations and specialisations are increasingly visible in Microsoft’s partner directories and customer-facing materials.
Recognises partners leading in AI adoption and innovation across multiple solution areas. This designation signals a commitment to delivering advanced AI solutions and measurable customer outcomes and is increasingly used as an eligibility marker for co-sell, incentives, and pilot invitations.
Highlights distributors enabling partner success at scale, supporting the broader ecosystem and accelerating AI transformation. The “Frontier Factory” model is emerging, with distributors providing Centres of Excellence (AI, Security, Migration, BizApps), consistent go-to-market execution, and enablement services for resellers and ISVs.
For partners specialising in delivering high-quality support and managed services, providing access to enhanced resources and incentives.
For partners helping customers address data residency, compliance, and sovereignty requirements, particularly in regulated industries.
The MAICPP refresh aligns partner recognition and incentives with Microsoft’s solution areas:
Partners who invest in multiple solution areas and specialisations (e.g., Copilot, Data Security, Digital Sovereignty) are best positioned to access the full range of benefits, including advanced go-to-market support and prioritised co-sell.

Learn more about Microsoft skilling
As usual, Ignite 2025 launched a flurry of new information.
There is a lot to absorb and it can take time to sift through and work out what’s of the most potential value to you.
What comes through clearly for me is that Microsoft has doubled down in the message that came through with the changes to its CSP programme earlier this year.
They’re continuing to ‘raise the bar’. This means partners who operationalise AI, align to the updated programme structure, and invest in skilling and specialisation are best positioned for growth.
We’re on your side, always. Don’t hesitate to reach out to your Crayon account manager, or ask for a session with the relevant Technical Advisory Group if you’re seeking guidance on where the start aligning Ignite announcements to your opportunities.
